Sparkfun have come up with a new AVR Programmer see  here (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=9231)

The pocket AVR programmer according to them is comparable to AVR ISP2 and compatable with AtMega168,328 and all other chips supported by AVRdude. At $15 its also very cheap which would be good for people doing the $50 robot!

wow! that thing looks great! it only works with avrdude though :-\
but still, for that price! $18au!
