depending on how fast said 600lbs needs to rise

If your talking about making a robotic arm that can lift and carry 600 lbs then I hope youre friend is prepare to shell out tens of thousands of dollars for some huge Hydraulic cylinders

There are lawyers getting... uh, excited... all over the country.

design a 600 pound lifting robot based on advice from strangers solicited over the internet.

Unistrut lifted by 3/16" cable by a wheelchair motor. hub from a BMX bike is the elbow joint

"megadeth said it would work and he's got 547 posts so he must know what he's talking about."

my friend has to lift and move some risers. it does not have to be fast.

need some more details dude

lift it up vertically, or on a fulcrum , or what? Give us at least a paragraph's worth of details and some diagrams or drawings
Check out the Roboduino, Arduino-compatible board!

thanks for all the thoughts. were thinking of jacking up the corners and puting castors under them and then just build the robot to push it.

If you put castors under it couldnt you just push it yourself? Pushing 600lbs on wheels like that isnt as hard as one might think.

I'd say the castors would probably cost a bit.

Have you ever put a V6 engine in a shopping trolley and tried to push it :o (don't ask)

It's alright on smooth surfaces but the smallest bumps sure feel like mountains :D
The question that drives me hazy:

Am I, or the others crazy?

Yeah, a Ford Capri V6 (the ESSEX engine), had no other means of transporting it from the scrapyard to the car.
Had to push it like 6 miles or so, me and my brother taking it in turns. (Oh to be 17 again :D)

Only mentioned it because the weights are similar as is the means of locomotion

Lol you would have to use bigger castors for a bigger load but buying the castors will be MUCH cheaper than building a robot to do it for you :P

What are you talking about? That was totally relevant! I was suggesting if he got bigger casters hed be able to pull it so easily he could use his eye lids! Geez.
:P
sorry cooldog, I do tend to go off in tangents like that :)

But yeah, if you use bigger casters you should get less hung up on small imperfections on the surface youre trying to move accross. If you want a "robot" to help you push it, you could get a wheel chair motor or two, hook them up to a speed reduction gear set(which gives more torque), and just use a regular toggle switch to switch between go and dont go.

If it needs doing maybe you could hire out a Hiab, instead of forking out for those hydraulics...  :P

Although building a robots more fun  :D

I've never build one..  :-[
Looks fun though  :D

it needs to be able to be used several times so renting would get more expensive
