what to do with laser torch
« on: April 29, 2010, 10:19:58 AM »
hi
I have a laser torch (one that comes as a key tag).
is there anyway to do something useful with this?
like obstecle sensor? should be some thing that can be made with some comman components.
thanks

For an obstacle sensor you could use a camera to detect the beam, but that isn't very easy. You can't easily make an obstacle sensor with it.

If it has to be simple, you could use it as a broken beam detector by shining it on an LDR.

For an obstacle detector, you need to modulate the beam and use a photo transistor with an amplifier with eg. a PLL tone detector (like NE567/XR567) that sense when the beam lights up an object. It will be more involved and ambient light might be a problem if used outdoors.

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?
Please remember...

HI,
can we sense reflection of laser beam? its not like sensing IR reflection
