how do you guys like my wall homemade avoiding robot? I made it using the BS2 board and it senses using the PING)) rangefinder.

My (w/ friend's help) wall-avoiding robot (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O74H3k1QNes#lq-lq2-hq-vhq)

here is it's shake test:

aww sorry. lol. nice robot but the wheels are a bit juddery which could be improved.

I hope to upgrade to DC motors so with a flick of a switch the robot goes from autonomous to R/C
because of the speed I think the juttering would go away.

do you know how your going to do the transition from r/c to autonomous? a mech switch on your robot?
Title: Re: my homemade wall avoiding robot
Post by: superchiku on April 14, 2009, 04:19:25 PM
do it by flick of switch by software or by hardware... ur choice..

bump!
so what do you guys think of the construction?
I also added new vids to the tutorial
Title: Re: my homemade wall avoiding robot
Post by: SmAsH on April 17, 2009, 04:52:23 AM
the vids are ok, but kinda short. also you don't really explain much in them?
@the construction:
the construction of your robot is actually pretty good looking even though it was made of pvc piping lol.
i dont know what it is about ghetto robots, i just like the way they look. weird huh?
i also liked the way you reinforced the wheels, what are those stick looking things?
Title: Re: my homemade wall avoiding robot
Post by: dellagd on April 17, 2009, 05:56:35 AM
the sticks are square wooden dowels I had laying around.
the short videos I can fix easy. (though the main point of them was just to show the robot working, not how it works)
I chose PVC pipe because it is really cheap
Title: Re: my homemade wall avoiding robot
Post by: frodo on April 17, 2009, 06:05:12 AM
try and do some vids about how it works then ;)

:-\ if you are ever making more just set up the cam on a tripod next to your work area so we can see what you are doing, and maybe talk along with it telling us what you are doing and how you are doing it. this will help a builder see how its done and get a better understanding of what he or she is doing. although props for making the vids at all ;D

I did add more vids to the tutorial on how to cut out the slots for the servos.

Nice robot, although the youtube video's didn't work...? I had to go on youtube and type in "my wall-avoiding robot". But oh well, still really good.

My Voice sound just like yours on tape like a girl !!!! And I'm 14 and my voice has broke... :D

I HATE It Hate I  Hate It !!

Man, this Topic has made me laugh !!

I feel like I'm not alone, there are other people in this world who sound like chicks when they talk  on camera ;D

@ superchiku

You still single?

Guessing from  "nice robot...jst curious but  ::)who is the girl in the 1st video"   that...

private reid, with the youtube videos, you have to use "LQ" or "LQ+" down the bottom of the vid to make it work.

Oh.... Why?

What does that stand for?
Title: Re: my homemade wall avoiding robot
Post by: SmAsH on April 24, 2009, 08:54:03 PM
they stand for low quality and low quality plus. it just means that the vid hasn't been uploaded in high quality... yeah, i don't know why that isn't a preset with vids on this forum yet. but yeah, its not going to kill me to click once ;D

To get rid of the jerkiness, you should increase the amount of rotations the wheels go through before it checks it's sonar again.

And what language did you program it in, you might be able to use 2 strings to process the ultrasound and keep the wheels going too.

I used the BS2 which uses PBASIC, so BASIC
I actually thought of that, posed a question, but got a no since it is a single core processor.

is was programmed in basic.

Lol this topic is funny! Love how this forum can talk about anything!

Love the robot! For my robot "Project syth" we our using some type of hard plastic forgot the name of it but it was easy to cut, we made a double layer so one holds the arduino bred board and the 2 modified servos, and yours might be glichy if you modified the actuater wrong (I thing I said it right) I cut the tip off and when I placed it back on it did the samething, opened it open again and saw that the tip was sticking out a little but so my friend grabbed a tourch that was laying aroung heated up a razor and cut it off..

Works like a charm after that!

Oh wait where you using servos? Lol well this is good advice anyways lol!

Good job!

Oh and I'm 16!

the problem isn't the servos it is the code because whenever the wheels arn't moving the rangefinder is scanning. also it seems to use the same kind of scanning code as you robot.

I am also soon going to be adding a unique feature to my robot. the microcontroller will be able to activate a servo, turning 3 DPDT switches. this will then switch the controlles of the servos from the MCU to me.

i cant see a point? but why not instead of having a servo turn a switch which could easily fail have a transistor operate a small relay?
Title: Re: my homemade wall avoiding robot
Post by: dellagd on May 06, 2009, 04:37:10 PM
or I will do that. the point. it is unique and I think cool. plus its a project ;D

Or you could do it all in software instead of a mechanical switching over  ;)

I see whet you are saying. can MCUs read PWM pulses like, say, from a RC reciever

they should be able to....

well then that makes it really simple
