Industrial Robot Arm

Hai i am currently working in a university project.how to calculate the torque required to lift the arm of the real industrial robot.Based on the calculation i have to select the motor and gear. please guide me in doing the calculations.

Aren't you supposed to know how to calculate torque already? Like, wasn't that part of the coursework you're supposed to learn?

That being said, torque equals force times distance. So if you know the gravitation force on your load (and on the arm) and you know the length of your arm from center of rotation to center of mass, you should already know what the normal load would be.
