Bluetooth or Wifi??
« on: March 23, 2010, 01:13:39 PM »
I wanna make a robot that has a camera on it, and the best way i can think to do that is to make a bluetooth or something that can have a USB device plugged into it, and transfer the data from that device to my comp.  How hard/expensive/ useful will this be?  I wanna make it a normal USB that can be used for lots of things, then I could use a webcam or my video camera.

Advice?

I'd look at some of the roborealm tutorials. They have a bit of info on wireless cameras and image processing.

I'd have to say bluetooth because you won't have to mess with any sort of network settings.

Why couldn't you just use a pre-made wireless transmitter made for cameras?
Or does the robot need to use the camera info?

Well i think it'd be nice if it was just a USB port because then it could be used for anything.... And it would be just like it was plugged into the comp.  So bluetooth it i then? Wifi is more for internet stuff?

Wifi isn't really limited to "internet stuff" but that's kind of what it's associated with.
I've never seen a "bluetooth usb forwarder" before, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

You may want to look into axis wireless cameras. they use wifi and can be viewed/manipulated from a web browser.
