Potentiometer
« on: October 24, 2007, 01:17:03 AM »
Hello everyone. I am in a huge need of a sliding linear potentiometer that is 9-10 cm long (travels 10 cm from one end to the other to cover the whole range), and that has a total resistance of 1 kilo-ohms or 2 kilo-ohms. Can anyone direct me to where I can obtain/purchase such a sliding potentiometer? Thanks a lot.

I'm not sure where such a large one can be found, but as for the total resistance, it can be compensated for by adding a resistor in series (if the desired resistance is higher) or in parallel (if the desired resistance is smaller).

dont suppose you could use a radial potentiometer and just put a pinion gear on it and have a rack be on this moving object of yours so that as the rack moves it turns the pinion gear thus turning the potentiometer?

just a suggestion...
