IR camera
« on: April 17, 2008, 02:29:32 PM »
I would like to use a IR camera with a robot, but they seam to be hard to find. Can you guys name any sites that sell them?

The wii remote is a good example of technology that uses an IR camera. I know IR sensors can't hard to find, but these just pickup the general amount of light in the area (1 value).

Thanks.

almost all webcams can see IR light

maybe use roborealm and filter out all colors except for the color of IR light thats picked up by the camera
Check out the Roboduino, Arduino-compatible board!

Just specify wavelength of interest. If below 1 mkm, everything is OK. If above it, no hobby-level cameras available. IR LED wavelength is in average 0.85 mkm.

digital, ip camera? why...

this is analog + digital it seems, but is color camera, if used in conjunction with an IR emitter, will it pick it up and return in b+w???

most low cost cameras with those adjustable lenses will have an infrared filter, remove it, then buy a cheap TV remote and remove the visible light filter from the front and use it to replace the IR filter you removed.

This may not be what you need, but the wii remote detects up to 4 points.  This guy is using them and gives some examples of how he is doing it:
