Title: Help Building a flying bug (Bat) with retractable wings
Post by: sarrafapp on September 07, 2010, 01:34:35 PM
Hi, I am building a flying bug or Bat with retractable wings. Any help would be highly appreciated.

My previous experiences have been mostly with Lego kit or in building simple bots like line follower or obstacle avoidance etc . I have never worked on something that can fly  :) so I don't even know how to start. I do know that none of my  previous experience would help here since I have to keep this design very light weight and first of all being able to fly is a very big challenge in itself.

Step 1: Buy a RC airplane and learn to fly it well enough so that you don't crash. I would recommend a hobbyzone super cub. You don't want to destroy your creation as soon as you launch it.

Step 2: Build your own RC airplane from foam (see RC groups "foamies scratchbuilt" thread). It will teach you the principles of model flight and generic construction help.

Step 3: Scratchbuild another plane, this time with your retractable wings.
