I don't think she classifies easily. She appears to be just an animatronic, incapable of processing input or any AI...she speaks a recording.

For some reason it seems everytime the japanese make some female android, they have to give it the voice of a cartoon character, and it never really fits.

This isn't such a big leap from Disney's animatronics that were developed 30-40 years ago, though the robots in that RoboSapiens video that robot-dreams linked to a few days ago - the ones that could articulate their eyebrows and blink their eyes - did a pretty good job of conveying personality.

I have visited her last year, in Osaka, when she (it?) was in the final stage of development before being introduced to the public.
Have you guys seen this one? It is not so cute, but much more functional.(and has  better voice too)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=091ugdiojEM

The cute one was programmed only to indroduce her(it)self and answer simple questions, but this one I posted also has vision. She can recognize some actions, objects and faces, but none of them can't walk or pick objects or do anything else.

I dont understand why everybody is so excited about those robots. They are still in a very early stage of development and both I and my advisor teacher here in Japan, Mr. Sankai, agree that those androids wont be available for at least 25 years. And when they start selling them it won't be less than $80k(mass production case).

They're really creepy!

The movements don't look very smooth or realistic, it does remind me of Disney animatronics.

Patience, my friend. If they don't develop those "creepy" androids, they will never be able to develop better ones and you think they are so creepy then you should stop criticize and build one yourself.

I don't think he meant creepy in a bad way. I also think it's creepy(scary a little), but know they have to start somewhere, and soon we won't be able to tell the diference from a real person and one of those.
