Could someone recommend some decent electronics books? I want to build things like power supplies, touch sensors, and other doo-dahs, but am having a hard time finding a book at the right level of detail. I don't really care about the quantum theory behind how a PNP transistor works, I just want to know how to use it. On the other hand, I'm a programmer so I really don't want to wade through chapters of "zero is off, one is on."

umm, don't know if it'll help but it can't hurt. ;)

There are books from forest mims that just give basic info on how and what components are, followed by tons of circuits that you can use or combine to make something that you actually want.
ie. 2 weeks ago i made an audio intensity sensor so i modified his circuits for a microphone, a preamp, and a signal conditioner.

Thanks, everyone. Food for thought. The Forest Mims book on sensors looks good.
