Chassis support for big bot... help please?
« on: May 24, 2009, 09:57:48 AM »
I have just resumed my project and still dont have a valid chassis idea, here are some pictures, please dont hesitate with any and all suggestions.

But some might not be considered because of the fact that I dont have a welder, CNC, lots of scrap metal.
I have not drilled on the caster wheel, because I think I might upgrade after realizing all of the bot's weight will be on the caster.

You can see that it bends a bit... hence the reason for a different strategy.

I am desperate for any and all ideas... please help!

Two Wheels and a caster in the middle, roam around, for sturdiness.

I really want to make the motor mountable horizontally, however it is extremely confusing.

If you want to make more suggestions on how to make this alteration, please do! What you mentioned did not make much sense to me though.

I want something similar to this:

where I can mount these underneath the wood (flat-horizontal) and put the metal rods through this. Would this provide enough support?

why not simply put more than one caster on your robot.... it then shouldnt put all the wait on one caster if you have say two in the front and two in the back then you should have the ability to get the robot to sit flat,,,, that also depends if thisis intinding to go on a surface thats not smooth i would not reccomend this

read my initial question. Mounting the motors is the issue, proportionally problematic with the lack of space, since space is not suffiecient on the underside, I dont know if 4 casters are probably. Hence why I need a secure, small suspension system.

try placing the motors on the inside and having a hole for the shaft then give the motors proper support on the inside of the box.... build something like a frame around them to hole them snug or find some type of mototr mount for it... I notice the axels arent very large which maybe a problem... as far as the space on the bottom issue IF you had to you could simply add a piece of wood to the bottom and give it proper support and easily get 6 inches on each side....
