7.2vdc motors
« on: December 09, 2007, 03:53:01 PM »
I want to use these motors: http://www.lynxmotion.com/Product.aspx?productID=96
but the manual says "Theses motors are not intended for instant reverse"
Does that mean there is some problem with the reverse? I want to use them to drive my robot so I probably need instant reverse. Are there any motors that allow for instant reverse?

hehe, there's nothing wrong with "the reverse".
It says instant reverse. Turning your motor forward, and thne immeadeatly turning them in the other direction requires huge currents through your circuits and motors.
Thus frying them if you do it with a heavy load...

You don't need instant reverse, just integrate a delay in your code when you want to drive the other way.

I suspect the reason it would say that is because the gears are of low quality and the sudden stress could cause them to break or wear out fast . . .

I've used motors from that company before (see below image), they aren't of high quality, the company is called Hsiang Neng. They have great torque though . . .

Anyway, that motor says 'out of stock' . . .
