Title: I think I have a 3 pin stepper of some kind on my hands?
Post by: Joker94 on January 02, 2010, 04:08:13 AM
Hi Every one

So today i disasembled a Computer Hard Drive and in side it has a motor that has a great way of attaching things to the head/horn.

It has three pins and when i apply power to it it reacts the same as a stepper motor. so i am thinking it has similar workings and internals as a stepper motor. It has no identifier markings or any thing.

I dont plan to use it for propoltion and i dont yet have plan but i hope to connect it to some sort of mechanism.

Thanks for your time

Read that post.

Basically its a brushless DC motor, which means you need a controlling circuit for it, and yes, it is much like a stepper motor, in that you have to apply power to one pair of wires, then the next etc.

Here is a diagram of a brushless motor from http://www.mpoweruk.com/motorsbrushless.htm (http://www.mpoweruk.com/motorsbrushless.htm):
