Did I miss anything or is there a site with lower prices?
How can I make the transaction safer?
Thanks
-
hmm...well if you want really cheap prices you can check out www.futurlec.com they have quite good prices.
but when your searching it doesnt come up with very good results. so try using the item type. eg. instead of 120ohm resistor type resistor and select it from the list that appears. hope this helped you

Sorry, I meant no disrespect. lol was for the trickiness of the site you mentioned.
-
naa man i was only joking XD im so immature sometimes ;D
-
Let me guess Smash,....you are... 12?
I can make out everything except the digikey cart. If you could just copy and paste each one to here and make a list.

Sure, I'll fix it in a minute

Now I need to purchase a soldering iron, can I find one of those at my local wal-mart?
-
if you're going to be soldering a good bit. even after you've done teh $50 robot then get a good soldering iron. invest just like you did with the $30 programmer.
another option is to get the $35 arduino from sparkfun. you'll just need so solder on some header pins, and you wont even need the $36 programmer. just a usb b cable
if you do get the aurdino, the source code might need to be changed a bit to use diferent pins
-
yes it is better to invest if your going to using it alot. i did and my soldering iron has lasted me 6 years still working fine today :)
-
op sorry for hijacking your thread.
a thing i'd like to add.
the battery seams pretty expensive. you might want to look around for a better deal.
you can get a 9.6v bat w/ charger for $20 at walmart or toysrus
-
yea i was starting to wonder about that. then i thought it might come with charger.....

that answers my question....

yes and no thats not a lie
EDIT: yes i got it for my 7th b'day...my birthday is in 12 days woooot

ok whatever you say
but Smash you are avoiding my question , DID YOU BUILD A SONAR BOT. Actually I really need working code or pseudo code
-
yes i did parcially. i didnt get to the programming stage! god. i was still testing if tracks worked when it fell in the pool! >:(
-
whats with it now?
how about a pic of it?
IIRC your camera phone can do 1200x800

hold one man
sorry about the comment no offence meant i was just kinding around
-
OK smash , thanks for your honesty , thats what I like around here! ;)
basically you have a tank chassis without sensors or anything
what programming language do you use? ,out of curiosity , I tend to use assembly and BASIC for microcontrollers
and by partially you mean have you interfaced the sonar sensor yet, thats the part I am concerned about...
-
smashes half complete robot? jk lol vid of tracks (home made) www.freewebs.com/smash-robotics/sonarbot
lol
~smash
-
The link is http://www.freewebs.com/smash-robotics/sonarbot.htm (http://www.freewebs.com/smash-robotics/sonarbot.htm)
and Smash , the treads are on soooo loosely , they will come off in about 5 minutes, I doubt that they can drive the bot at all in that condition. Buy a tank toy and hack it with tracks attached , or don't use tracks at all!
Remember , think of what sensors you will add to truly make it a robot and not a chassis
-
yea im trying to find a toy with tracks that has enough space in the middle for the internal stuff like motors. will update if i find anything. and Eric do you have msn? or skype?
-
you dont need alot of room in the middle. you can build up. just have batteries low in teh middle
-
lol ill go find a toy "made in china" tank.
-
lol
Well guys thanks for the help =P
so the arduino would be better than the programmer?
I alredy have usb b cable =]

its made in italy...oh well. and yea theyre good if you dont have a serial port.

My laptop has a serial port.
-
two things:
don't hijack threads
focus on making robots!
(just trying to keep the forum high quality ;D)
-
Hi guys, well it took me moths to order the stuff xD
I was busy this last semester of high school.
Anyway, I've ordered all the parts to build it.
Expect them to arrive May 21th.
I'll keep you updated d=
-
Parts have arrived! =D
Now I need to buy:
- Soldering iron
- Batteries and charger
- Solder roll
- Multimeter

Wheels have been built
I did go garbage seeking as admin suggested d=

OK, the robot chassis has been made d=
I cut a 3" x 6" rectangle of foam board. I also used a water bottle as the tutorial says.

So, any thoughts or suggestions?
-
mmmm
look for a cooler chassis once the robot works,
use parts and cases that are just lying around....

Yea my goal for the $50 Robot was to make a chassis extremely cheap and easy, requiring almost no tools.
Its to get people started.
But I expected no one to settle for my design, and hoped everyone would quickly upgrade after understanding the basics . . .
-
Hey guys, sorry for not posting in a long time...
I'm still building it but I came to a problem. I think I screwed it up when soldering. I'd post pics but all come blurry...I don't know why my camera is a piece of shit.
Anyway, I'll try to take one shot as clear as possible.

Here is it...
I soldered 2 rows together...=S
-
Here a very big resolution
(http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg50/izaktj/S6308031.jpg)
-
So is it way to screwed? =S
-
You need to use a solder sucker or some solder mop to get rid of the excess.
-
So is it way to screwed? =S
not at all, this happens all the time
follow hazzer's advice
you can use a solder sucker , desoldering wick, or even just melt the solder and while its melted push off the excess solder with a dentist pick or something
-
Thanks a lot guys!!! ;D
-
looks good so far!
i still need to post up pics of mine.
-
OK guys I'm back at building this robot, I halted this project due to lack of knowledge and motivation. I entirely focused on bodybuilding (on vacation). So now that college has begun I have bought better tools, I was gifted soldering practice equipment (like 50 resistors for free lol and 2 boards)
Tomorrow will restart work on it ;)
-
screw it i can't solder to save my life...
I'll try breadbording it.
-
Progress!! :D
After hours of analyze, searching and asking, I finally broke trough.

NOTE: The long wires are for the programmer.
I still need to add more stuff and build the sensors, modify the servos for continuous rotation or maybe use the ones I got on the sumobot.
