you chose the wrong chip, it's ATMEGA168 not ATMEGA169

if you have a multimeter, check for shorts, also recheck your programming header against http://www.scienceprog.com/wp-content/uploads/AVRISP/header.jpg

I am having trouble making out your circuit images, they are all really blurry . . .

i tried using atmega168 and atmega168p but same result---failed!!! :'( :'(
