I just had a great idea. But I need some questions answered first.
1. Do old computers (1995-2007, just an estimate on what year) have any good parts that can be sold for a reasonable price?
2. How much does a computer (used, not new) cost at, e.g. :a thrift store, or garage sale?
3. Can i sell old computers on this forum, or do i have to buy an advertised space?
4. Do you think people will buy?
*by computers i mean CPUs, not the monitor, mouse, or keyboard.
-
1. For older ones( under 1998) not really - maybe their power supply, RAM, or harddrive , newer ones almost everything can be resold
2. Well on ebay they go for under $100
3. Not sure about #3 but frankly no one really would buy the whole computer from you, they would buy the pieces they want on eBay
4. Some people buy used computers , but they may not buy it from you. These people who look for used computers usually go on eBay or another wholesale place - think about it , no one wants an old desktop computer from some guy who doesn't even have a reputation in this business
Sorry for being a pessimist , I just don't want to see you lose money for no reason.
May I ask what your intention was?

I agree with airman,
I would never buy stuff online without the security of ebay... think about it, noone would trust it.
And not many people would be interested in buying old computer parts... it's too easy to get them in real life, why buy them on the net?
And why buy it when it's so easy to get for free from friends, neighbors and family.
Once the people around you know that you collect old PC's, you get alot of them. Believe me ;)

oh, i see. I was going to collect old computers and sell them as a cpu or for parts.

*looks over at shelving area*
Ive acquired many many electronics from people that didnt want them. I could probably build a 4 ton robot of doom with laser eyes with all the stuff ive got hahaha
But yeah, kokeecola, Im also assuming that you arent particularly knowledgeable about the internal workings of the computer? That would turn pretty much any potential buyer off from your sale. A CPU(Central Processing Unit) is component, not the whole tower, just so you know.
But if I were you, I would keep the computer and take components off of it You can get some nice capacitors and such off of them. You can also get quite a few ~14Mhz crystals from network controllers and motherboards. Also, if you could post specs on the machine such as processor speed, RAM count, hard drive size, etc, we could probably tell you the value of each device.

okay, ill take some pictures of the inside and you guys can tell me whats good.
-
lol that MIGHT work... but not very well lol
how about taking it apart and taking a detailed picture of the individual pieces?
-
What do you mean by whats good?
Do you mean something that would be worth more than 20 bucks?
Harddrive ,RAM, CPU , Computer case , CD drive ,Floppy drive , power supply
and thats even stretching it..........
-
yeah sure, ill take it apart and take some pics, i just first have to get a camera lol. and by parts i mean parts that are usefull.

i mean parts that are usefull.
useful for robotics projects?
-
yeah

sorry, i havnt got the camera yet, ill try to get it soon
