« on: May 21, 2007, 03:58:14 PM »
Ok so I am done the board and am hooking up the battery. I have a 9.6v Nimh battery that used to be for a old rc car. Can I hook it up to the board and will it work? How do I do it because I can just hook it up like in the picture because it has a plastic thing on plug in end. So it will go into rc car jut not onto little clip on board. Thanks please help

This is for the 50 dollar projects :)
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, a 9.6V battery will not work. The servos are likely to fry if you give them much more than 6V . . .

I used one like that, after I made a little box for it. it was a PITA making the box, and if looks don't matter just hack up a rc car for the slot/cartridge receiver.

YOu said its all in the instructions? You are not using one of the square battery 6 volt things in your turorial. Like I said mine has no wires it is just a rectangle, just like this one:RC CAR BATTERY PACK AND CHARGER 6 VOLT NI-CD It is on ebay but it is NI-Cd and it is like the one I have rectangular. Please look at it. Just copy and paste that into ebay. I am sorry I could not get the link I can not get the link bar up on this stupid computer. >:(
Please help thankyou.

Oh I thought you meant the robot had no power wires . . .

Can you solder wires on to it?

Hmmm so soldering on to batteries is kinda hard. The problem is that they absorb the heat so fast your solder wont melt. And if it takes you a long time, you could damage the battery.

The trick is to turn your soldering heat up really high so you can melt the solder before the heat dissipates. Coating it with lots of flux is also good. If you dont have a good soldering iron perhaps you should take ed's suggestion . . .

You probably also should practice soldering wires onto thick peices of metal first just for practice . . .

I've tried soldering unto the battery many times before, even with a powerful gun, and it don't work.

I have also tried soldering batteries without any luck. Seems like the battery-surface repells the solder pewter. What I did was simply taping the wires to the battery with ducttape. I have not had any problems with bad connection.

Ghetto connection FTW

just use the 9.6v battery and put it through a switching regulator, and then plug it in.
