You have done the hard bit. Now all you have to do is pick a matertial with a tensile strength great than the stress that will be induced in it. I'd recommend you work in a factor of safety of a
least

Go to
http://www.matweb.com/
and you can search materials and find their material properties, including tensile strength.

Hmmmm but you can't calculate stress unless you already know the materials properties and dimensions . . . do you actually mean forces?
