Title: CMUcam Serial Connection Problem
Post by: airman00 on August 29, 2008, 07:40:04 AM
so this is what I did to make my own serial connector to the CMUcam:
I wired pin 1 of the DB9 to pin 1 of the IDC and so on for every single pin
The numbering I used on the IDC is the same as below ,can someone please verify its correct

When I connect the CMUcam to the computer via the serial cable I made , the computer does not detect it .
Any ideas what to do?
Perhaps I need to make it a null serial connection?
If someone knows where to buy a DB9 to IDC cable that works with the CMUCam please tell me as I will buy that .

Attached are pictures of how what I did .

Thanks,
Eric

what do you mean there exactly?
what steps have you gone through on the computer?

also which model of CMUcam?

you probably know this but the computer won't detect anything connected to a serial port on it's own.
you will need to run software that reads the sreial port.

@ dunk
I'm sorry if I wasn't clear
I followed all the steps on the CMUcam website for running the CMUcam software. I ran the application and it can't find the CMUcam.

Anyways I found the solution , after reading the datasheet again I realized I soldered the IDC to DB9 connector incorrectly

I'll resolder it over the weekend and get post what happens. Thanks for the reply .

It all works if you follow the soldering diagram in the datasheet.
