Title: Ordering Robot Parts..
Post by: awally88 on June 01, 2008, 02:44:50 AM
Hey everyone,

A couple of my friends and I are looking into seriously getting into hobby robotics and possibly trying to organise some competitions however there is a slight problem - We live in australia where most of the parts dont exist and those which do are insanely expensive, (AVR chip in US $2, AU $20!!) so to get the parts we need they need to be ordered from the States wherein lies another problem. Shipping of a single part costs ~$25.

Now down to my actual question, I would like to know if there is someone out there who would be willing to have the parts that my friends and I order sent to them and then send all of those parts in a single cheap package to australia thus saving us a substantial amount of money.

We would be willing to pay an interested person for the time and trouble taken. We can potentially be saving a couple of hundred dollars in shipping.

Thanks in advance for the help

Hey all,

I talked to Admin about this and he suggested the idea that someone could make a business out of this as there are a great many people who would like robot parts but don't want to spend the massive shipping costs.

So if someone is interested there could be a lot of money for just sending a package overseas!

I'm not too sure really but there's about 5 or 6 of us interested in getting parts, probably some sharp ir's, some motors each, maybe batteries. I need to talk to everyone after exams and see exactly what people want.  There should be only one or two boxes of stuff that need to be sent.

Wow you guys move fast!

I was building my website... http://rscsadmin1.googlepages.com/home to support my new business!

I'll be happy to help you out, and as this is the first order, there is no charge except for covering my shipping costs to you.  Please send me an PM or e-mail to work out details.

I'll be writing more copy on my site over the next few days...

Nice, I might use that to.
Any discount for regular users? or for SoR users?
Howmuch would it cost?

PS: You should mention a bit more clearly in the text that your warehouse is also located in the US, and thus no large shipping costs are needed to ship the items to you.
And more users would be interested if you'd guarantee that our products will arrive.
And you mistyped "please"... ;)

Not sure if you saw this or not:

There are already companies out there that do this.   I did a Google Search of "international usa shipping consolidation" resulted and found at least 3 companies.
