Regulated, Unregulated?
« on: October 22, 2008, 11:23:28 AM »
Good afternoon. This is my first post, and it is regarding the video demonstrating the Axon MCU ease of use.
I was wondering why the servos and the battery/switch was plugged into the 3V unregulated pins, and why
the sensors were plugged into the 5V regulated pins??

Also, my senior design team has selected the lynx motion L6 robotic arm for our robot.
It requires a minimum of 6VDC for each servo.
Is this possible with the Axon, if amplification is needed, what is the best way??

Heck yeah. The Axon can handle up to 29 servos. No amplification needed.

You'll find all your answers here:

Many sensors and other electronics require regulated 5V, so thats why I plugged them in there.

The servos were plugged into unregulated battery, NOT 3V! :P

If you still aren't sure, just ask here for more info.

So is amplification needed for a 6V servo, if the regulated is 5V? BTW thanks for all the reponses guys.
Also, does the Axon include an on board motor driver or do I need to buy an external/h-bridge?

Amplification is not need for a 6V servo because your battery should have enough juice to cover that. The servos are connected directly to the battery so they get 6V+ depending on your batteries. The battery is also connected to a 5V regulator which is then connected to your sensors. Only the sensors are connected to the 5V regulator because if they get more than 5V they will get fried.
