Title: $50 Robot question
Post by: Anoroc on April 07, 2008, 09:53:41 AM
Hi everyone,

So today is payday! Going to order all of the parts needed to make my first bot :D I did have a question though: I'm cutting the parts for my wheels and I wanted to know if anyone knew, [or could measure] the dia. of the post coming out of the HS-311 servos needed for said wheels.

Any help would be appreciated :D

Hmmm how are you mounting these wheels? You shouldn't need to know these measurements if you are following in the admins footsteps.

You just stick the wheels to the servo horns and then use the horn screws (which come with the servos) for a bit of extra hold.

servo shafts are not perfectly circular

they are geared sorta

look at pictures only

you need a servo horn ( like hazzer said) to mount wheels onto it

Gotcha,

From what I saw, I was under the impression I needed to have a small hole (for the screw) and some two sided tape to keep it from slipping. I suppose I was, more or less, looking for the hole size for the screw, so I don't make it too large (bigger than the head of the screw). I can always just wait until the parts get here for true measurements.  ;)

if you want exact size just check servocity

also if you use Google Sketchup you can measurea CAD of a servo on your computer

Drill a hole in the center of your wheel that is small enough to stick the screwdriver in that can tighten the servo screw - but is not so big that that the screw falls thought it.
Place  the servo screw through the hole in the servo horn and then screw the servo horn to the wheel.
You should now be able to put your screwdriver from the outside of the wheel, thru the wheel, and then adjust the servo screw into the servo.
So you shouldn't need sizes - its the size of the screw on the servo and the size of the hole in the horn.

u could use a small hub to attach a wheel to any shaft
