new on robots
« on: October 27, 2007, 10:03:41 AM »
hi! im posting this coz i would love to start in the world of robotics but i dont know how to... ive been looking for robot kits and stuff like that and the only thing ive found is the lego mindstorms. is there anything thta you advice me to buy? the only things that matter are the price (which cant be too high), theyr verastility (with the same kit, i can do easy stuff to learn, and advanced stuff  when i get better) and if theres a way to ship it to portugal, allthough brighton (UK) is possible to me. thank you, and i hope soon ill be telling here my adventures with my first robot

You can try googling Robot Kits and stuff like and I guarantee you will get a LOT of hits. Just search around for something you like

or you could try the $50 robot from this site. Let us know if I wasnt helpful enough for you :P

I would recommend the Parallax BOEbot as the best way to get into robotics.  They have great documentation and teaching guides and a very active forum.  ALIATRON is the Parallax distributor in Portugal... Here is there website... http://www.aliatron.com/parallax/index.html  Obviously, I would also check out the Parallax website at http://www.parallax.com.

I agree with dragon, look at the 50$ dollar robot first and it will give you an idea of how robots work and what parts to buy, it's found here. http://www.societyofrobots.com/step_by_step_robot.shtml

Well what I would suggest Khazar is that you do try out the $50 robot because it really is a great way to learn how to really actually make a robot. Not to mention you can modify it pretty much however you want. And you can take what you learned and make something else cool. It really is a great way to learn what you need to know... Im still working on modifying mine and I have learned a LOT already :) From a newb to a newb I would definitely suggest it.
