try to connect it to another computer. It must be an issue of your usb port rather than the adapter itself, but if you can't make it work in another computer, then the adapter could be having problems.

Have you installed the drivers/software for it?

Are you connecting it to a primary USB port on your system, or a USB port on another USB device, such as a keyboard?  Some of those keyboards with USB ports built in can't provide full power to additional devices.  The Logitech G15, for example.

The serial end is connecting to what device?
The usb end is connecting to what device?

You must tell us everything you are doing and have done, or we cannot help you . . .

You haven't even told us how you know it isn't working!

THe serial is connected to the $50 dollar robot brain.
The usb is connected to the computer.
I know is not working because
1) is it not showing on the computer.
2) the light on the adapter is blinking.

Dont you mean the programmer? Is the programmer turned on or off?

Did you install the drivers for the adaptor yet (there should be a cd that came with the adaptor)?

Admin which is better the one of radioshack or the one of Compusa. Need to know because i am planing to use my last money on a good one and not on one that wont work to its best potential.

I don't have a windows Vista.  I have a mac with Windows XP but any program, hardware you put in it will work.

Hi
I have the one from radio shack and it works well, my only gripe is that it reinstalls itself and has a different com address for each USB port on my laptop that I plug it into. Also it is a little expensive (I needed it ASAP so I spent the extra money).

Ive bought the one on radioshack and it said that the disc has not been approved by windows. Like if it was a pirate disk. and that it can damage my system. Should  i Installed it?

Also it still does not show. Can somebody give me a picture of there $50.00 dollar robot. Underneath to see the weldings to see what i am doing wrong. If anything.

Hello

I STILL doing the %50.00 dollar robot. And I have bought this new dongle but when i connect it to the computer and start up my robot. The computer does not show anything. I have a 5 Volt output to my dongle and it still does not work. I think the voltage regulator is not passing enough electricity.

What should i do?

I will post some picture of my robot. but my camera is not working so it may take until tomorrow. (today being Monday).

Pls post any answer. And yes i have installed the driver and the usb/ serial adapter is connected directly to the computer.

Typically mcu's take 5v's to run right.  Go get 6v batteries, run it through a 5v voltage regulator to the MCU?

Some USB/Serial adapters won't work because in a normal serial connection you have TX, RX, CTS and DTR lines but in usb to serial sometimes you only have a level conversion for tx and rx lines.

If you have the schematic of the dongle you are using please post it. 4.7v should be enough
