why arn't we scavenging these!

i've found almost no info on scaving VHS players. first pannel i open up on the one i found reveals a brushless motor WITH controller, a DC gearmotor, tons of cogs and a bunch of mechanical hardware. what's funny is that there's not much info on getting parts from these. time for me to clean out the local thrift store

none of those unfortunately. i did however extract the nice brushless powered drum. it's a bit of a beast!

Hi,

The video head drum has got 1 or 2 nice small bearings that you want to hang on to.

No reason to make a tutorial about stripping VCRs, just open and rip out anything that looks useable - Different VCRs have a certain (large) amount of parts in common, but usually a bit of individual parts as well (depends on who made the motor really).

Professional VCRs have a lot more good stuff than consumer gear and broadcast quality (usually Betamax and the like) are stuffed full of quality parts.
The older the VCR, the better mechanical parts and that goes for most consumer gear.

nice! i imagined that like CD drives all the components in a VCR would be pretty standard. now i need to find more >.>

anyway here's the first haul. only did a bit of desoldering but i'll have more once i break out the blowtorch

it doesn't look like much but to me it's a great haul! both the brushless motors can be made into encoders or used alone and one has a controler chip on it. i also nabbed all the multy colored wires and ribbons since that stuff is really expensive
