Robot Clubs in the Hamilton Ont. Area

(1/2) > >>

nathan25:
Hey,
I've Googled, Asked Jeeves and searched it on hotmail but have yet to find it.
Is there a Robotics Club in Hamilton Ontario, Canada?

Thanks
Nate

I design robots to take ovr the universe.

JonHylands:
The only "club" in the area is basically a bunch of people who get together once a month at Bug'n'Bots in Brampton for a Build-Fest.

The September Build-Fest has been replaced with a BBQ at the home of the guy who owns Bug'n'Bots, which is being held on Sept. 1.

I generally go to the Build Fest get-togethers, which are typically held the second Saturday of the month.

I dont see why you couldnt start one? Perhaps put up flyers around your area to see how many people you can get interested in it.

Im sure you would be very surprised at how many people you might find. You might even find someone who knows a lot about robotics! For your first meetings/get-togethers, you can talk about what you all want to accomplish. Set up small goals for yourselves! Say "We should build a robot that can [insert function] and [insert function]" and then go about researching how to do it. The SoR community could be your research and guidance tool for the most part. With of course each member contributing in any way they can, You could all learn together and who knows, maybe a little while into it, you can maybe even be competing in the DARPA competitions winning high places!!

Seriously, its worth a try. You could even get sponsors. Perhaps if you went to a machining shop they would let you use their equipment for a while when they weren't...

Try it :D

Thats a great idea. At my school i'm really close to the manufacturing teacher...he said i was his best student evr...not trying to brag or anything... so i'm sure that theres a machine shop we could use... but the hard thing about starting a club is that where would we meet and stuff

HDL_CinC_Dragon:
Well you can simply meet in a classroom after normal school hours. Plenty of schools have that sort of thing. Plus most schools would LOVE to have something like that. Its good on the schools report card having such a great technology class lol. You could even get some computers in there and put some CAD programs on there and use CAD to help design the stuff. I mean get really crazy into it and I bet you could get some great sponsorships. Im not sure of any robotics competitions in Canada but once you get your club started, you could probably ask FIRST Robotics if you could participate in their annual competitions (They even send you some of the parts you'll need!!)

Just a thought. Check them out if you want to: US First

And apparently they do operate in Canada too!
