Title: sound activated switch
Post by: ert481 on June 16, 2009, 09:35:20 AM
I need a very simple yet sensitive sound activated switch. either a schematic or link. i searched google and couldn't find a simple one.

thanks

I did a quick google search and found this http://electroschematics.com/704/sound-activated-switch/ (http://electroschematics.com/704/sound-activated-switch/).

"Hoooooonnnneeeeyyyyyy! Turn the light on."

That has always been my simple sound activated switch.

 :P

Are you looking for any sound, or a specific tone?

i need one for any sound...i dont know how you found that schematic but that should work unless theres any simpler.

i also need a 2 second delay switch to shut something off.
thanks

use a microcontroller. all of this can be done using one. read up a bit.
as for the switch you could use a microphone with a set threshold in the code.
ie. when the sound gets to a certain level it does something.

i dont wont to program anything....this is kinda a security system an i just want something basic.

then my friend, it will be a task... how does a tin can rigged up to a trip wire sound?
security systems ARE complicated if you want them to work well.
without a microcontroller it will be hard to do.
what do you want it to do when it "hears" something?

no this is not going to be anything advanced. i just want a sound activated switch hooked up to an alarm so it turns on then build a 10 second delay before it shuts off. Or i was going to have it hooked up to my shadow activated alarm so i can go over to it and clap and have it turn off the circuit.

Hi,

You can build a delay very simple with a 555, with half a 4093, or with a couple of transistors + glue.
To go with the first two, they could be trig'd from either an electret microphone capsule and a transistor, or with a piezo disc if you only want it to trigger by loud sounds like clapping your hands (or by tapping near the disc ).

What output do you need when triggered, before that and after the timed part??, something like  this: __|¨¨¨|__  ?
What supply voltage?

10 months too late and it's even a very bad circuit with the base of T1 unprotected  ::)
