I'm new to robotics and I've heard you guys talking about Cad. I need a program to use to design my robots so I was wondering if you could give me some info on how to get Cad. ???

Well, I'd say you should start with Google Sketch-Up. It's Free and easy to use, and it also has an online warehouse so you can get pre-CADed parts instead of building them yourself.

There's even a Members Tutorial about it on the site.

Well, it all depends on the application, though I almost always use the Metric Engineering Template (because I find metric waaaaay easier than Imperial...but then again, that's the unit I grew up with...) :D

i like metric, but have gotten used to a bit of imperial too because of all the Americans on here...
metric has smaller units anyway...

Ok... so i designed my robot. Now, i want to make it to scale. I've read in the tutorial to just type in the numbers but it doesn't seem to work. What should I do. ???

yeah, didn't work... if you are using google sketchup try drawing a square then click in the bottom right and type something like "12,15" and see if that works... to upload pics click additional options at the bottom of the typing box and click browse... but make sure its in a file format that is allowed.

is it in picture format of google sketchup format?
i don't think sketchup files can be loaded onto here...
try exporting it as an image then loading it onto here...
