Title: SketchUp drawing of my forum contest Robot
Post by: Brandon121233 on April 18, 2007, 06:43:02 PM
If anyone cares, or just wants some ideas for a layout, http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=22aface35303bf68de958cc950cbb321 (http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=22aface35303bf68de958cc950cbb321) this is my initial design for the robot I plan to enter in the forum tutorial contest.

Wow, you really took a lot of effort to draw all the components :P Looks really good!

When I used Google sketch-up, I ultimately made simple boxes for most of the components..

This is my final design for Walbot ( at least I think it is) I added a second layer and changed to gearhead motors. http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=22aface35303bf68de958cc950cbb321 (http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=22aface35303bf68de958cc950cbb321)

I recommend also putting screws and screw holes into your design - this is where I make the most mistakes . . . make sure wiring fits too, I sometimes mess that up as well . . .

I put all hardware specific drawings in separate layers, that way I can focus on the design rater than the nit picking details, then I go back and double check that everything will fit properly.

It's a great drawing but the stick coming out of the motor is to small to room the tires. If this was a real robot the stick coming out of the motor would just rotate itself not rotating the tire.

Yeah, but I think Brandon will have thought of that lol

Brandon's design absolutely rocks. Drawing an arduino takes some balls.

yes thank you sotu for pointing that out, how could I have possibly missed that, it only took me 2 full days to meticulously draw everything to exact scale; and to have missed such an awefully big error was plain stupidity on my part, I will be sure to take 3 seconds to add a shaft coupler. (sorry for the sarcasm)
