servo modification(again)

hi,
 
I'm trying to modify my first servo, yay!

The gears are metal, and the thing that stops it from turning all the way when its assembled is a metal pin that im having trouble egtting out.

I cant figure out how to get the gear off to access the pot, or if the pot is part of the gear...im kinda new at this.

help much appreciated.

You don't mention which servo it is, but with all servos I have seen, you can take the top off to access the gears and the bottom to access the electronics.

The thing that stops it, is it the small "pin" on the leftside of the gear in the first pic? What stops it? something in the top cover? If it is, it's probably plastic, and you might be able to remove that part, insted of the small pin.

I got the large gear off and excuse the aboslute simplicity of my question but what exactly is the pot? What im seeing isnt exactly whats shown in the servo modification tute.

I read a few different ways to do this from what i understand I wanna disable the potentiometer right? some say to remove it, some say replace it with resistors, or superglue it,

I put a picture below, can someone tell me if this is right before I do anything drastic: I desolder points 1a,1b, and 1c and remove the pot(2[green writing]) completey, would that work?

Or can I just superglue the jutting part of the pot so it doesnt move?

if i remove the pot, do i need to connect points 1a, 1b, and 1c with alternative wiring/component(i.e resistors)?

If you just glue it, the servo will still try to move it and either break the glue or itself. Follow the guide on the link I posted. There is another guide here: http://letsmakerobots.com/node/259 you can read too. Both of them replace the pot with two resistors.
