Title: Project S.Y.T.H! The PS2 Controlled Version
Post by: AdvsNoob on May 03, 2009, 09:38:15 PM
This is a robot me and my best friend zac is working on, i have the vision part of it (The part where it moves by it self...) And he is working on the PS2 controlled version! He just finished it so all we have to do is meet up again and then work our two codes togheter to get them to work with a simple switch!

MODE:
1.Autonomous (Self Controlled
2.PS2 Controlled (Manual)
3.Internet Controlled (Wireless(Manual))

how much current do the servos draw from the laptop?
you should watch out because if they turn over 500ma you could fry it...
also love the robot, the ps2 control is awesome ;)

Im not sure how much it is exactly but he tested it before and he said we should be good, i remember it took us like 10 mins making the adjustments to everything to get it to work. It might be 5v because that's the output of the arduino

what? i just said make sure you don't draw to much current...

oh lol ya sorry i was saying that the arduino automatically converts anything like 13volts to 9volts then converts it to 5 volts for the servos and stuff

so i was saying that it is ok lol ^_^

Actually the USB outputs 5 volts.

yes but i ment the arduino maxes at 9 volts...

yes but i meant the arduino maxes at 9 volts...
what? what do you mean by maxes? you can input up to like 25V into the arduino and it will still come out as 5V on the pin... it will just be very inefficient...

Oh wow.... I'm not thinking of the usb... I was thinking of when we used a battery pack I'm sitting here plugging it in testing it and so on not even thinking lol! Your right sorry about that!  :D

what did you mean by "it maxes" that makes no sense? please explain...

what i mean is that it takes no more than 9 volts well on the other one not the usb

i think that the usb connector bypasses the regulator as its regulated already...
as for other power methods you can have somewhere up to 25V input as long as your servos can take it...
just more wasted power...
please tell me if i am not getting you question...

No I beleave your right I looked around "google" and I can agree with you.

Ps: never have your resource be your friend who just got the arduino.... lol

I agreed with him though because I remember reading some where or watching a video saying it only takes about 9volts but I could be wrong

are you sure the video did not mean that 9V is a popular way of powering it as the voltage regulator needs a minimum or 7 or so volts... so nine would be right up the arduino's alley, but not so much for the servos...

That might be it, ill go check history tomorrow.. I'm on my phone right now.. Lol..

Because I feel like a dumb *** right now...

don't feel that way, there is not really a set max, there is a recommended max... but that is generally a bit off.
most people just use a 7.2V pack to run everything on their arduino's, i improvise with 2 3 cell holders in series...
charging is a bitch though.
