Tracking Golf Club
« on: November 15, 2009, 04:29:31 AM »
I want to track a golf club in a number of different ways.

1)The angle of the club when it is in the position to hit the ball (there will not be ball there)
2)The where abouts of the clubeg. back swing, hitting the ball, follow through etc.
3) The position of the club with regards to the base so you can tell if it is a practice swing or the real thing.

I know i am going to need a number of sensors i just have to get a rough idea of what you guys think i will need and to verify what i know.

My control system is going to be my computer and i am thinking i am going to have to run my sensors through a MCU and then to my computer by uart.

all suggestions  will be greatly appreciated.

thanks Joker94

Just a thought. The Wiimote (3 axis accelerometer and IR sensing camera) and an IR LED (for the ball) should give you most of what you need. As a bonus, since it is a Bluetooth device you should be able to do without an MCU.

EDIT A futher bonus is that there is documentation online for Wiimote hacks and possibly existing libraries in your chosen programming language.
