musical tesla coils

I know theyre not robot related but theyre still cool anyway.

The music you hear is generated solely by the tesla coils, there are no speakers at all. (for all those people wondering what to do with that tesla coil they have lying around ;D)

Heres the link for the 10 minute video of these 2 coils going through a much larger repertoire including the super mario brothers theme tune. I just posted the link because it drops too many frames playing through other sites to be worthwhile

The bad thing however in singing Tesla coils and generally Tesla coils is that the spark combines oxygen and produces ozone which is toxic and poisonous for the human!!! I plan to build on tho!!! The have fun and Tesla always fascinated me!!!

no :) It would require many different tesla coils to produce even just a voice. If you look at a Fourier Frequency Time graph of a persons voice, there are many many different frequencies going on at once. I have a theory thats its possible but extremely difficult. What was going on here was he was probably using the frequency of the song to drive the Tesla coil

In fact this IS possible with a solid state tesla... I don't know how but this guy explains it in his home page...

Sound is a distortion. The Tesla coil doesn't need to be tuned to only one frequency. As he said, this Tesla coil works as a AM transmitter.

The tesla coils just have to compress the air the similarly to the magnets in an headphone. With only one magnet you can produce any sound. The same can apply to the coil. But dont ask me how to do that though.

And cause I don't like people saying that this is not possible (generally speaking) I'll give an idea on how this is done.
In a AM transmitter we have a carrier wave. The carrier wave is always transmitter in one fixed frequency. This means we have a distortion in a certain frequency, but me can also vary amplitude. For example:

x = A*sin(ωt + θ).
A = Amplitude
ω = radial speed
t = time
θ = starting phase.
Ignore θ (θ = 0) and let's have a look at the rest. The carrier wave frequency in given by: f = ω/2π
Let's say freq is at 200/π Hz then ω = 400 rad/s and we are here:
x = A*sin400t

This is the carrier wave!!!
Now pay attention.
If we vary A which is the Amplitude, we have a second distortion.
In the Tesla Coil occasion we have a simple harmonic distortion in order to have AC current and the spark and a second random distortion which is the sound!!!
This is Amplitude Modulation or AM for more common!!!

But this is just a single sound. If you want to make a melody you have to change ω and sum all the x's. That would be a Fourier sum I believe, just like those ones used for Fourier transformations.

Well since I'm only 17, I don't know Fourier transformations, I'll learn them in a year of so. But I know what you are talking about.
Well my point is not that we have two waves combined with each other, so we don't need Fourier.
We have a Simple Harmonic Distortion, a carrier wave, a single sound to produce the AC, the spark etc.
And what we charge is not the frequency of the carrier wave but the Amplitude of the carrier wave.
The sound you are talking about is the vary of the Amplitude.
For example:
χ = Α*cos(2πt)*sin(200πt)
The main sound produced by this equation is f1 = 100Hz
By the amplitude of this sound changes in a sequence of f2 = 1Hz
This typically means what will fade out  two times a second.
In the Tesla Coil if the sound amplitude varies as the song frequency we have music through the Tesla...
I just try to explain that we produce music based on a stable frequency sound. We don't have waves messing with each other!!!
