Title: help needed regarding steering servo

Hi!
I am doing my final year project of a autonomous robotic car. Its size is 3.3feet by 5 feet and its weight is approx. 60kg. My mechanical assembly is almost complete. Its a four wheel vehicle with rear wheel drive and front wheels for steering. But I have a problem regarding steering servo.

Plz help me how to find the torque requirement for steering and which servo is best for me. Also tell me, is one servo enough or should I go for two servos?

Plz do reply its very urgent coz the completion date is 4th April, 2009.

how fast will it be going? what terrain? what price range? please answer these questions and then maybe we can help you better :)

120lbs? You can't use servos to steer that heavy thing. Even the strongest servos out there are used in RC trucks that dont even top 15 lbs.

hi,

i also feel thats its not possible to steer such a heavy thing using servos. may be you can do it, if you can afford an industrial grade servo motor. its pretty costly... or else you may think about stepper motors. i have seen a 2 wheeler (a real big one) steered using a huge stepper motor which is pretty cheap

If your vehicle is a slow mover, like 1 mph or less, and can take its time making a turn, you might be able to use a linear actuator, such the ones at www.servocity.com (http://) 

They are powerful but slow, such as several seconds to many seconds to extend the full range of linear motion, depending on how much motion you need. They are also expensive, around $100.

Thanks for ur reply.
The speed of my car is approx. 1m/s and i can afford a servo in the range of $50 to $100.
Now plz tell me how to find torque needed and the options that which servo is better for me.
Is it possible to use two servos instead of one for steering. Plz reply asap.
