Where to buy a wheelchair motor?
« on: May 04, 2009, 08:53:28 PM »
I thought of a great robot idea that I might want to look into in the up coming months. Does anyone know where I can buy wheelchair motors or motors of similar power. I need it to have enough power for 150 pounds and 5 MPH. Wheel diameter will probably be around 16 inches.

have you checked ebay? newspaper listings? normally you can find old wheelchairs that nobody wants anymore for cheap...
plus everyone says that ebay is a saint in this field...

I've pretty much jumped head first into anything robots afterI stumbled upon this site. I downloaded some pdf's the other day and one of the books is called Build Your Own Combat Robot.

They have a pretty extensive section on motors and they actually listed that site when they mentioned wheelchairs.

I'd recommend it so far.....first book i've started to read and it is very comprehensive and easy to follow. Gives you practical information....not just theory for the hell of it.

If anything it is worth it just for the appendix at the end which lists many suppliers for motors, actuators, batteries, etc

Check it out

Are you opposed to downloading e-books from a torrent site? Simple solution...

shush, we don't like people suggesting those things on here as it can sometimes screw the maker out of money he deserves... although some of us do that, namely me sometimes... ;)
