Just getting started
« on: October 20, 2007, 02:24:47 AM »
So I'm new to the whole hobby. I wanted to just go buy some stuff and start messing around with it to see what I can learn in junction with the tutorials I've found on this site (amazing tutorials IMO). I found this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Electronic-Component-Starter-Kit-613-pieces_W0QQitemZ250177211236QQihZ015QQcategoryZ50423QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem and was wondering if this was a good deal and if so is this a good mix of things to get me started. I plan on starting with the robot for under $50 http://www.societyofrobots.com/step_by_step_robot_step1.shtml cause that seemed to go over the basics. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks much.

I started with this:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102913&cp=&parentPage=search

There are other places that sell that for cheap.
That kit is good for learning but you'll need to buy a small, seperate breadboard for a project( the whole thing is to big to put on a robot)

The $50 robot is a great place to start
Check out the Roboduino, Arduino-compatible board!

The bitsbox kit you were looking at will give you a good base of components to start with, athough you would need to buy a few more specific items for the $50 robot.

the price is also quite good for what you get

Awesome, thanks for the help. I think I'll order that mix bag of components just to have something to start with. Also thank you very much ed1380 for that link.
