Title: Building a robot based on instructions. Please help :)
Post by: Robobuilder on November 08, 2008, 09:53:10 AM
Hi there !

I am new to this site and going to attempt to build Brandons robot.
http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-wall-avoiding-Robot!/
 (http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-wall-avoiding-Robot!/)

The components are as following :

Arduino USB board ( Keeping this as I have found it locally)
LV-EZ1 Ultrasonic Rangefinder ( can one use a different range finder ?)
2X 54:1 16mm Spur Gearmotor, FF-050 (can one use a different gear motor ?)

I am wondering if  the listed components can be switched for other equivalent components to maybe make it easier to buy locally ?

I have been trying to source equivalent components but don't know which components are compatible with the rest of the robot.

Help on alternative components is greatly appreciated!

Will keep updating this thread when i get started.

Cheers / Thomas

You can use many alternative components.  Look at all the different robots out there.  Just decide on what you want your robot to do, dicide on your specs  and start researching.  Most components out there made for robots are interchangable, you just have to figure out how to interface them with your microcontroller.  Research is the answer.
