The information is a bit sparse right now, but I'm sure some of you younger ones in the US will be interested:

So do you get two badges for building a robot that ties knots?

wish they had that in Australia ,would be easy as nearly all the university's now have mechatronic and robotic programs , it would be very simple to put in place as well

Wish they had that badge when I was in scouting. I definitely find a robotics merit badge more interesting than a pottery one.

Only if it ties them correctly.

I read that it's going to be more in-depth than just RC Vex-type stuff.  ;D

Admin, I'm glad you posted this news.  Since I was a Boy Scout, I haven't looked back, but I had to see for myself... http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Merit_Badges

The 2 things that took me by suprise:
1) I was disappointed to find out I never knew about the electronics merit badge. :'(
(If only the internet existed back in those days) ::)
2) Then I saw the recently created nuclear science merit badge... ???really?!?

Maybe more robotics clubs will spring from the scouts!

Also noteworthy for younger SoRers, if you haven't seen it yet...Google is having a Science Fair for students aged 13 to 18.
A robot could do my job...

I remember back when I got that merit badge . . . I was also a camp counselor at BoyScout camp and taught the merit badge :P

Not recent . . . I got it like 15+ years ago. We even got to camp at a nuclear power plant for two nights :D

That was, of course, before they invented terrorism . . .

. . . admin was one of those really dorky boy scouts that got like 70 merit badges, like half of what they had at the time, lol . . .

I don't remember getting any merit badges. I do remember making a napalm like crud out of stuff we had at camp and lighting all the fire buckets around the campfire. They still had water in them so it was safe :) We also burned a kids eyebrows off with an accident involving kerosene and incense.
