Title: Navy Robotics Research

Good news (for robot builders)

The Office of Naval Research has recently released its "Naval Science and Technology Strategic Plan" and I got to see it.

It appears they are making robotics technology the #1 priority - across the board.

If your technology is robotic, and it has at sea-applications (vision, UUV, sonar, scanning, communications, UAV, swarming, biosensors, biomimetics, the list goes on), they are VERY interested.

Just figured those of you readers who have a robotics company would be interested ;D
(yes, there are quite a few who visit SoR)

Companies will now be hiring more robotics engineers to build robots for the Navy - that means you have a better chance of getting a robotics job, and for those of us who already do, will get higher wages because we are in more demand ;)

the US is always invading places.

I initially had a similar comment, but edited after seeing Putin's proposal today.  In any case, there's no question that this technology has rapidly come to be considered indispensable in national defense (hopefully more so than offense), and a LOT of money will flow into robotics development.

the best defense is somtimes a strong offence... lol

isnt their also a large contest for fighting robots that somhow involves the military? i heard a friend talking about it, but didnt want to call bull till i found out for sure

IMO the best type of conflict is offensive

So that should mean more ME are needed   WOOT
