Where to get copper clad board?
« on: March 01, 2012, 03:20:12 PM »
I am getting my CnC machine working and am planning on using it to cut out some circuits. I saw some copper clad board at Fry's but it was really expensive. I was hoping to find a source that was a little more reasonably priced.

Do any of you have suggestions? I saw some good deals on Ebay, but I like to stay away from there if I can.

Thanks!

Hi,

[...] I was hoping to find a source that was a little more reasonably priced.
Most businesses that produce PCB's as part of their daily routines, dumps nice pieces of FR4 (fibre glass) board from time to time, in chunks larger than any board that you're likely to use - single sided as well as double sided. And while it won't help you with through hole plated jobs (nothing will, as they're drilled before the copper is plated on), wire goes a long way connecting layers.
A small box of chocolate and/or a smile delivered to the right person, may net you enough PCB material to last you the next decade or so.
Check the Yellow Pages for local electronics producers.
Regards,
Søren

You can order them from Amazon for less than what Fry's charges (at least around here).

They would probably be more expensive than Fry's but I believe Radio Shack typically has some copper clad board in stock.  Might be worth taking a look.

Why is that?  ;D

Because I a little bit don't trust anonymous people on the internet, a fair bit don't trust Ebay as a company and a whole lot don't trust PayPal. And it turns out Ebay mixes all those things.

Ill check some local electronics makers to see if they have any scraps they can be convinced to part with.

Thanks!
