Title: Amazing 4 wheeled stair climbing robot
Post by: Admin on January 09, 2009, 01:08:09 AM
A new unique way of climbing stairs, pretty neat. The first half of the video is going up stairs, the second half is going down. I'm interested to know what sensors/motors they used, and how the wheels are being powered . . . I'm pretty sure there is a remote control directing this . . .

The video is also being fast forwarded, but they don't say how much. Probably 2x.

Very interesting stair climbing wheeled robot designed in Intelligent Robot Lab at University of Tsukuba.

Impressive! I'm just trying to imagine how many motors/actuators it uses...but I'm failing miserably!

I can imagine this design being used in commercial robots in the future (such as typical household/butler/helper robots). The way it climbs stairs reminds me a bit of how the "Wheg" robot moves (a movie of this was posted a while ago)

Amazing!

That is such a neat little robot!

Clever design and movements on the engineers' part!
