We are building the $50 robot for a project but would like to add some different features. Does anyone have any ideas of something we could add to it to make it more complex.

Additional sensors, maybe to detect the amount of ambient light or to detect a loud noise.
A small speaker or piezoelectric buzzer to make sounds.
-
multiple sensor types, light and distance to object are good ones.
you can then code remakably complex behaviors with very simple rules.
make a few of them, and get them to follow eachother.

Have you seen these?

Hi,

Almost anything you add will add to the complexity as well.
If you really want a challenge, try adding dynamically changing camouflage (akin to the armoured suit of Predator) made with cameras and projectors/displays - it has been done allready, so it's not impossible.
