Title: My second robot with live video feed and controlled by my Mac!
Post by: zack on August 23, 2008, 08:42:48 AM
After having created my autonomous rover http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8996877282379774452&hl=en (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8996877282379774452&hl=en), I wanted to create something I could control with my Mac.  This is partly inspired by Google Street Car!

I went to Radioshack and bought this cheap RC toy for $7.00, spent time learning about serial ports, hacked the transmitter, connected my serial port (USB2Serial) from my Mac to the transmitter.  Hooked up my old Nokia phone to provide live video feed to my laptop via bluetooth.

Refreshed my VB skills, wrote a command center that tied the video, rf transmission to the serial port.

A whole lot of fun this was considering, I'm not an electronics guy!  ;)

Enough talk, here's a  video

Here's my command center I wrote in VB with live video feedback

Does the vehicle use a digital compass?  I see cardinal direction buttons on your screen.   What transmitter are you using?

It's a normal el-cheapo RC toy I bought from RS for about 7 bucks!  :P Any RC will do though

can you provide more details on using the Nokia phone for wireless video?
