TwinMotion - strong robot platform from scratch
« on: March 22, 2009, 09:17:28 AM »
Hi Guys,

A few days ago I've completed the very minimum of what is to be a robot platform prototype.

After I've wasted months trying to make a RC truck work as a robot platform, I've decided to build everything from scratch, and improvise on my own.

Basically I'm relying on two strong gear motors to the hard part.More technical details on my blog:

Also thanks to society of robots for the good tutorials. It got me started with my first AtMega steps.

wow that is pretty sweet looking, good job on that. I can definately see some way of adding a 3-axis accelerometer/some compass sensor and some more coding to keep it in balance, that would be something really cool.

Thanks.

What about powering a mini-itx board?

I would surely need some more power for video processing, but running a mini-itx on AA batteries pack, it sums up as too much weight.

That would work nicely, just modify thew base with bigger tires and stronger mounts.

Ok, but it will also require a car battery to last.

So I think I will get the mini-itx out of current plans, probably some ARM microprocessors might be the solution for video processing.

I can see that working nicely. ARM MP's are definately very powerful, but look into the cost of the tools for working with them vs using your mini-tx. If you are willing to get them you'll find that you definately have one of the most powerful MCUs on the market.

eg. NDS uses an ARM 7 and an ARM9, and look what people are making them do.
