Swerve Drive Parts
« on: April 20, 2011, 06:56:25 PM »
Im looking for gears and such that will work well with a swerve drive. Dose any one have any suggestions on where to get gears for the motors that will turn the swivel moduels?

Hi,

Have you considered small pitch timing belts?

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?

I have been looking at those and the more I look the more I think those are the way to go. But can I get ones only 4 1/2 inches long?

These are very close, but is the 4½" the distance between pulleys or the entire belt length (if cut and measured)?
You can calculate the exact size you need here and find lots of different lengths here (main page here).

Remember that you nee some way to tension the belt(s), either by a "blind" pulley, or by being able to adjust the position of one of the pulleys.

Søren

that would be from the pullys outer edges away from each other. yes im going to add a tensioner pully to each one but i will need four belts.

Hi,

that would be from the pullys outer edges away from each other.
Then you need belts that are more than 9" - when you have settled on the pulley sizes, use the calculator to get the exact length.
