Motor Control
« on: December 29, 2007, 05:43:24 PM »
Alright over christmas i have practiced my soldering skills by destroying some parts from radioshack, and then just barely getting a 5 Volt regulator made. I have 2, 3 volt motors from radioshack, so far i have come to the conclussion that they spin ridiculosly fast for their purpose, also i would be overvolting them which would make them spin even faster, so should i just buy some new motor assemblies such as http://www.solarbotics.com/products/gm3/

Also, i dont want to use a microcontroller, so is it possible just to hook up a photoresistor or something and base the motor on that?

If you don't want to use a mcu, you'll never be able to let your robot do anything else than being a photovore.
But if that's what you want, you'll need a voltage comparator (741) and some photo diodes.

But I strongly recommend using a mcu. It'll be much easier...

And for the motors, naturally ungeared motors spin very fast and have very low torque.
to drive a robot you'll need geared motors. And you'll need motor drivers.
It would be easier to use modified servo's to drive your wheels, but then you'll need a mcu.

yea i dont want an MCU on this project, just some PNP's or NPN's and some diodes, and i have a LM339 Quad Comparator from radioshack, will that work?
