I'm currently working on a robot with a five-horse engine on it. I just used a clutch and chain design for it. What exactly are you trying to build?

3.5cc engine? it's for automobiles not for robots, your question is very complicated, I guess no one can answer it.

First off, No offense to anyone.

3.5cc is for rc car / uav app's and runs on a fuel called nitro not exactly a full size automobile engine, the smallest car engine i know of would be the the Geo metro's 3 cyl which has a displacement of about 75cc, you might check hobby town USA? the people who work there are kinda a$$ holes but there website was pretty good last time i was on it.

Also note...
3.5cc = 0.21358310433 Cubic Inch's

there are engines in this category and these are mostly used in the field of RC racing.they are very costly and the fuel is also very costly.

if the engine is indeed an RC car enginge, which it's sounding like it is, i would try to find more information on the motor and you can then find transmissions to go with it.

 plenty of RC hobby sites sell RC car parts/kits/engines, so you  should be able to find something to suit your needs

Hey there. Now, a 3.5cc engine would be a nitro engine. The best nitro engine that I know, which is ALMOST 3.5, is a Traxxas TRX 3.3. This engine is a 3.3 CC engine, and is almost to your needs. I would recommend using a TRX 3.3 with an EZ-Start, its an electric starter. Makes it SO much easier.

I made a mistake, I misunderstood 3.5cc as 3.5 liters, if it's 3.5 liters, it would be a real car engine...

IMO, a small liquid fuel engine is a bad choice for a robot.  Those engines are designed for high-performance RC car racing, and not necessary to accomplish a robotic task.  Electric motors are much easier to work with and will probably meet your needs.  A gas engine certainly has advantages when you're talking about larger horsepowers (like 5 HP), but not for something so small.
