Title: my robot failed!!!
Post by: tjpark1111 on February 03, 2008, 07:44:07 PM
so i went to the competition on saturday....and.... it didn't work....
the suction cups wouldn't stick to the plexiglas box. why? idk.
so does anyone have any ideas on how to get the suction cups securely fastened to the box? my friend suggested wetting the suction cups/adhesives, so other than that, any ideas?
i want to know so i can acutally work on my robot early (instead of pulling an all nighter like i did on friday) for next year.
i kinda feel bad cuz my dad spent $500 on it, although i guess i can reuse all of that stuff so it's not such a bad thing.

sticky tape is no where near strong enough. here is a cad of my arm idea. the box would go on the shelves in between the forks. it is not to scale just a quick sketch.

i see 50 people already saw this thread.... if you guys don't know what i'm talking about, i'm referring to this thread i made a few weeks back for a science olympiad competition: http://www.societyofrobots.com/robotforum/index.php?topic=2729.40
trumpkin im not quite comprehending your idea. are you suggesting i should go under the box and lift it up? the thing is the robot can't be wider than that box so i'd have to have some sort of release mechanism for that to work.

oh in that case it wouldn't work. yeah I was thinking of the arm going under and lifting up the box.

i think you need to get stuff inside the box.

ya but once it falls over you can pick the stuff up

that was my initial idea: tip the box over, push stuff in, push 2 balloons out, pop 2 balloons. the only problem is, the 2 balloons that i pop need to completely stay within the box, and not have any stray pieces coming out of the box. if the box is leaning on its side, i'm afraid pieces might fly out, and i'd lose points.
