I quickly glanced through it . . .

So climbing 1.5ft isn't that hard . . . have you considered a robot that:
jumps
folds over the wall
does something like this:

Admin, wats the robot's dimension?

A few detail fr easy browsing
Quote
2.1 Arena Specifications
  1.

The pit dimensions are 50cm X 50cm X 45cm (refer Figure 1 and 3) where the dimension in vertical direction (45cm) represents pit height as seen from the base of the pit.
Lecture series updated
iitb techfest
The four vertical faces of a pit (Four walls of the prison) are as follows: Two opposite vertical faces (walls) of a pit will be made up of plywood. Other two opposite faces will be made up of transparent Acrylic sheet.
The dimensions of the opening of pit (pit is open from above) will be 50cm X 50cm.
Zone A is a horizontal surface (at a height of 45cm from the base of the pit) and it will be of the dimensions 50cm X 60cm. There will be a yellow line marked at a distance of 40cm from the from the nearby edge of the pit opening.
Zone B will have walls of height 10cm at its boundaries. There will be a spring loaded door / gate of height 10cm and width 40cm in the boundary wall as shown. The gate will have two opening halves of 20cm each.
Zone C will be on the same level as that of the base of the pit.
   7.

The base of the pit (horizontal plane, dimensions 50cm X 50cm) is the Starting Zone.

Machine dimension :30 cm X 30 cm X 30 cm at the beginning of the game
The external wired remote control used to control the machine manually is not included in this size constraint.
During the game, the machine can expand or detach itself into multiple parts provided it does not damage the arena in any way.

to survives a fall of 45cm, you need a rugged robot, and for example combat robots. They should be able to handle that "abuse" so look at some different ones, and it might give you an idea of what it will take to make your robot rugged. :)

hmmmm don't really remember
could quite possibly be the same as your required dimensions . . .

the trick to this is make your robot as light as possible. use plastics and not metal, and use thick screws.
I've made robots designed to drop down 6+ feet and flip down staircases ;D

Thanks for the replies.....
The main problem is climbing the45cm wall.... and the constraint is the dimension of the robot (30cm X30cm X 30cm)
...cnt find a good and trusty design.

Possibilities abound!

I was looking in this and came up with a few thoughts:

The key to victory will being making this thing insanely light.  I'm talking as light as function will allow. No paint, no stickers(except for flame sticks.. they are cool.), minimal wheel rubber(enough to make 1.5 runs or so), etc etc.  Once you make a suffiently light robot you have a myriad of options on how to remove him from the pit.

As Admin said jumping is a good idea.   As for how to jump I got a few ideas.  You could try to make a solenoid work..   with suffient force it might be able to jump you up.. but you'd have issues of timing to get all 4 corners to move at once and such.  What you might want to do is drive the robot up the plywood wall(more grip) and then use a solenoid to kind of shove it over.

The big problem with the jumping design is its dynamic.. if its off balance you might screw yourself.  Also, its going to be heavy.

If I were doing it I would "cheat" and just use insanely sticky tires.  Or even suction cup tires on the acrylic walls(I assume thats why they put those there).

I once saw this robot that had two arms.

The arms would latch onto the top of the wall really tight.

Then the robot would flip over the wall (like a robot ninja).

Once on the other side, it would let go of the wall.

I have video of it, but its really low quality video so I never posted it . . .

"30 cm X 30 cm X 30" is the max size.  I'm sure you could use a winch or something
